Chloe was created by the Egyptian born designer Gaby Aghion in 1952. Born in Alexandria in Egypt in 1921, Gaby moved to Paris in 1945. Until that time luxury womens wear was strictly haute couture (made to measure). Gaby changed all that with her range of luxury ready to wear clothing (pret a porter). This became the first ready to wear fashion house, although it was quickly followed by other couturiers.
In 1953 Gaby formed a partnership with Jacques Lenior and together they launched the first ‘Chloe‘ collection in 1956.
Famous designers who have at one time joined Chloe include Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney, with clients including Brigitte Bardot, Jackie Kennedy, Maria Callas and Grace Kelly. More modern clients include Kirsten Dunst and Natalie Portman.
Always aiming to be trendsetters, Chloe was the first Fashion House to have a mini version of their website developed especially for the launch of the iPhone. Chloe clients can now check out the fashion brand’s latest collections using their iPhone. It also has a “touch to call” function to contact a Chloe boutique everytime they’re itching to buy its must-haves.
