Sunday 1st of June 2008 will always be remembered in the fashion world as the day the world lost one of its shining stars – the truly inspirational Yves Saint Laurent.
The King of Haute Couture, Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint Laurent was 71 when he died at his Paris home from a brain tumour. He was born on 1st August 1936 in Oran in Algeria, and burst onto the public arena at the age of 21 in 1958 after displaying his first collection for Christian Dior following Dior’s death, and later opening his own fashion house in 1962. He has been credited with changing the face of women’s fashion for example by creating the women’s trouser suit, and women’s tuxedo evening wear.
Lauren Baccall, Catherine Deneuve and Paloma Picasso are but three women of style who favoured his designs.
Like other fashion houses, accessories were later added to the Yves Saint Laurent clothing range. See below for some of the latest bags from Yves Saint Laurent.
